RugMark Introduces GoodWeave

After 15 years of protecting children and promoting ethical carpet and rug production, Social Venture Network member RugMark International (RMI) is phasing out its existing certification label and logo and replacing it with a new brand, and a new plan to strengthen and enhance its core mission.

GoodWeave will have the same meaning as the RugMark label: a deep commitment to the deterrence of child labor, the education and rehabilitation of rescued child workers in the carpet industry, and the families and communities of more than 3,200 children in India and Nepal that they actively serve.

GoodWeave will, in time, represent an enhanced set of values that places the RugMark mission in a broader context of environmental and social responsibility. Through a new set of standards under development, GoodWeave label directives will be more rigorous, transparent and defined, and with input from a multi-stakeholder standards committee.  Please visit the new RugMark International website at for more information.

Journey From Zanskar

Telling the story of the last remaining Tibetan Buddhist society, SVN Member Frederick Marx’s new film, Journey From Zanskar, documents the efforts of two monks as they do everything in their power to protect their unique culture and educate their community’s children. “What you’ll see is this amazing example of service, of these monks doing what they can for these children, for these families and for the culture of this place they call home,” Marx said. “To me there is no greater modeling of leadership than how they sacrifice and risk their own lives to help these families get a leg up. These monks demonstrate that the greatest joy in life just might come in doing what you can for others, and that’s the key message I hope people will respond to.”

The film is now 97% complete and is presently screening nationwide at an array of venues to raise finishing funds. Please note that all of the post production profit will be donated to the subjects of the film. For more information on the film and to make a donation click here.
